In Diablo IV, one of the key quests that players will encounter is “Picking Through the Bones,” which follows directly after A Cold and Lifeless Shore. Journey to the Wreckage

After the events of A Cold and Lifeless Shore, your journey leads you to a wrecked ship where the coffin is believed to be. From here, head southeast toward another shipwreck. Along the way, you will encounter several enemies, including Plague Maggots, Quartermasters, Raiders, Reavers, and Skulkers. These enemies can prove challenging, so make sure you’re prepared for combat.

The Barred Door and Defending Neyrelle

As you approach the wreckage, you will eventually reach a barred door. Neyrelle, one of your companions, will suggest that she open the door from the other side. While she works on breaking through, you'll need to hold your ground and defend against waves of Reavers and a Quartermaster. The battle is tough but manageable. It’s crucial to deal with the enemies quickly, as you’ll hear Neyrelle scream in distress from the other side of the door once she’s attacked.

Once the enemies are dealt with, you must destroy the waterlogged door to proceed. After breaking through, speak to Neyrelle, but unfortunately, she has been infected with necrosis after being attacked by the drowned enemies.

A Heartbreaking Decision

In a grim turn of events, Lorath decides that the only way to stop the necrosis from spreading is to sever Neyrelle’s infected arm. With Neyrelle unconscious, Lorath tells you to continue the quest on your own, urging you to locate the coffin.

Continue your journey through the wreckage, jumping across the ruins, and eventually, you will find the coffin at the end of the path. Interact with the coffin to inspect it, and you will be transported to the Epiphysis Entrance. This marks the end of the quest.

Quest Rewards

Upon completing Picking Through the Bones, you’ll receive experience and gold based on your character’s level. For example, at level 41, players are awarded 13,084 XP and 2,100 Gold. Additionally, the next quest in the storyline, Beneath the Wine-Dark Sea, will begin immediately after, continuing the journey.
